We made it to California! Yay!
The plan was to leave Friday at 11, stop at the Portland Children’s Museum, and spend the night somewhere near Eugene. Well, it took a great engineer to pack everything we wanted to in those two little cars. With two car top carriers, we managed to take everything we wanted to… guitar, jogger stroller, even our computer monitor. We left at 3. The traffic was horrible getting out of the Seattle area, but once we hit Olympia it was smooth sailing. We stopped at a McDonald’s on the other side of the Columbia river for dinner, and managed to make it all the way to Cottage Grove, 30 miles south of Eugene, before pulling over at Comfort Inn.
The hotel was clean, and the price was right. Gavin wouldn’t sleep in the port-a-crib, and it looked a little suspect, anyway, so he slept with me and Megan slept with Christopher. I got a pretty good night’s sleep.
After lunch, we continued south, stopping in Redding for gas and ice cream.
An hour and a half later, we arrived in Chico, at Christopher’s grandparents house. We enjoyed a nice swim and yummy dinner, and were able to spend some time with Christopher’s grandparents and some aunts, uncles, and cousins before heading down to Yuba City.
Overall, the drive went great and we had a nice time. This was the longest trip I’ve ever taken where I drove the whole time, and I felt pretty proud of myself, but I am SO glad the kids and I are flying cross country.
