Power outage

Sunday brought high winds to Charlottesville. Our power went off just before we left for church, around 11 am. It was out for the next 18 hours.

When my kids were babies, this would’ve freaked me out. How will we stay warm? What will they eat? How will I entertain them without TV?!

But this time, it was no big deal. We ate peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, veggies and dip, chips and salsa, and ice cream. We put on sweatshirts and covered up with blankets. Since our townhouse is sandwiched in between two other homes, and new and well-insulated, the cold was not an issue. I think despite the below-freezing temperatures outside, our house only got down to about 60 degrees during the night. Finally, the kids had a blast in the dark. We colored and read books by flashlight, sang songs, and made shadow puppets. And we all went to bed early. Megan fell asleep immediately, and Gavin ended up between Christopher and I because he was “afwaid!” The power came back on at 5:45 am this morning. All is well.

  1. Sounds like a good day… and those pj pants… are totally mine. I got the faded, shrunken ones. So you’re welcome :)PS. I also gave up make-up and paper towels for Lent. I’m pretty hardcore.
