The Fish Family Status Update

Megan and Gavin have a favorite radio station, 104.7 “The Fish”. They listen to the weather and news when they wake up in the morning, and they listen for hours before they fall asleep at night. They demand it in the car. I love it because The Fish plays contemporary Christian music, and they are 100% family friendly. The music, the commentary, even the advertising (auto repair and Sarah Palin) are clean.

Every night at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. the station features the “Fish Family Status Update”. Megan started wanting to call in a few nights ago. The first time she got through she was so excited. When some snippets of her call were played back a few minutes later, she was on cloud nine. (They edit the calls and play them back– part of the “family friendliness”)

Tonight she got through again, and spoke with host Mike Stoudt for a minute. The conversation was played back in its entirety, and went like this:

“Fish, who’s this?”

“Megan.”

“Hi Megan, what’s your Fish Family Status Update.”

“I’m playing a game of Memory with my little brother. Gavin is excited because he is your biggest fan! We listen to you and Taylor every day and a few weeks ago, when we went to the Dogwood Festival, we looked everywhere for your booth until we found it. Gavin even wanted a piece of paper because he said, ‘Sissy, I want Kevin and Taylor’s autograph!'”

“Well, I hate to burst your bubble, Megan…” (good-humored pause) “…but I’m not Kevin.”

“Oh.”

“It’s okay, I get that a lot. Well, that wraps up…”

(Kevin and Taylor host the morning show, and Mike the evening)

Megan told me later, “Their voices are very similar.”
