Logan’s 1st Birthday

When I brought Logan into our bed this morning, Christopher said, “Our last first birthday.”

We kicked off the day with pancakes, Logan’s favorite, then headed to Remlinger Farms. We started the day with a pony ride. Logan was too little, but the big kids sure had fun. Then while the big kids tried the hay maze, I took some pictures of the birthday boy. We all rode the train, then grabbed some lunch and watched a one-man show in the theater. Ben said, of the singer/puppeteer, “When I grow up, I want to be just like that man!”

After lunch, the kids rode on all the carnival rides. The birthday boy, again, pretty much just watched from his stroller. He rarely complained, though, as long as he had some ice, or blueberries, or French fries to munch on. When he started fussing, around 2 p.m., we left. He was asleep before we left the parking lot, and  Ben fell asleep on the way home. With naps pretty much blown, we decided to forgo the lake trip we had planned in the afternoon and turn on the backyard sprinkler, eat watermelon and cake, and open presents.

Logan didn’t quite know what to do with the cake. He picked at it for a few minutes…

Then Christopher decided to get the ball rolling by “feeding” some to the big kids. They loved it, and Logan looked at them like they were nuts.

Then Ben decided to “help” Logan… he didn’t like that so much…

But once he started eating it, he seemed to enjoy it…

After baths, we did presents. Mainly, it was the big kids opening Logan’s presents and handing them to him…

Finally, he started to try them out…

While the big kids were playing with his toys, he said, “Fine, I’ll just play piano…”

Eventually, they went upstairs to watch Phineas and Ferb and he got to play with his loot in peace…

Logan got $13 worth of toys from the consignment shop (five things!), two cool toys from Grandma and Grandpa Richins, the jon jon from Grammy and Poppy, a card from Grandma and Grandpa Martinez, and a card with $10 from Gigi and Papa Earl.

A trip to the farm, watermelon, cake, and toys. You can’t ask for anything more when you’re one year old!

Logan at one year:

A big boy! Tall and heavy (23+ pounds). No official stats until his check-up. Which I have yet to schedule.

Fussy at home, but happy when we are out and about. Needs constant entertainment, not unlike his siblings.

Not interested in TV yet.

Not interested in walking yet, but loves climbing the stairs, Ben’s bed, and his Little Tikes slides. Almost made it up on the trampoline today.

Favorite toy: Ben’s plush Buzz Lightyear

Scares easily– loud noises, sudden movements, unfamiliar people or animals.

Starting to talk a lot. Mama, Dada, Bubba, Gaga, Siss. Favorite word: “Cheese!” Could’ve sworn he said, “Melon” today when he wanted watermelon. Will say “Nigh-nigh” when he’s tired.

Loves baths and water.

Doesn’t like affection unless he decides to give it. If you ask him for a kiss, he will arch his back away from you. If you lay on the floor, he will crawl over and give you a big, open-mouth kiss. He also likes to kiss pictures from family photo albums, or in books with pictures of babies.

Still nursing several times a day. Usually sleeps 12-13 hours, waking once to nurse.

Favorite foods: oatmeal, French toast, pancakes, PB&J sandwiches, watermelon, berries, smoothies, pasta, yogurt, beans and peas

It’s amazing the difference a year makes…

  1. I can't believe not one of those babies got your red hair. Looks like an awesome day. Consignment stores–just another way you and I are MFEO. 🙂 How will I convince you to move here?

  2. Something must be up with the last kid, because I can hardly believe he has only been around for a year. Seems like FOREVER ago I was praying he would stay put in your tummy, and then I remember praying he would be born when your mama was there. Wait; I think that was Ben.See what I mean, it all starts to run together when you have that many kids.
