Christmas morning my eyes popped open at 6:15. I was too excited to sleep! Gavin joined me at 6:45 and when we heard Ben stir a few minutes later it was time to wake everyone up (except Logan). Ben was amazed and thrilled to see his HUGE toy dinosaur. Megan got “just about everything!” she asked for, and Gavin was perfectly content with some new DS games and Legos. Allison even pulled an engagement ring out of her stocking… she’s finally ready to marry Rob and they are talking June 8.
We even had my dad (in Afghanistan) watching and listening from via Facetime and Caitlin and Tim and family (in Wisconsin) on Google Hangout. We sure wished they were with us, but technology made their absence much easier. After we raided our stockings, Megan passed out the presents under the tree. There were lots of toys and books and some clothes. Megan made homemade jewelry for the women and duct taped bowties for the men. She also bought little gifts for the rest of the family. Gavin spent his allowance money on a first aid kit for Dad, gloves for Megan, Legos for Ben and a toy football for Ben. Ben was excited to go to the store to buy gifts for his siblings, but forgot all about the goal once he made it to the toy aisle. Still, there were gifts for everyone from Ben and Logan. The kids were, as usual, spoiled by their grandparents (especially Grammy, who loves to shop).
The rest of the day was a blur. Grammy and Christopher did all the cooking, and we enjoyed a delicious dinner of turkey, ham, dressing, broccoli casserole, sweet potato souffle, brussels sprouts, and two kids of pie. I tried to get Ben to take a nap, but fell asleep instead. The adults had grand plans to play board games and enjoy our time together, but once the kids went to bed, everyone else soon followed.
